Small Business Saturday - Bucket Edition

 

As 2019 winds down and the holidays are quickly approaching, we’re revving up for a busy shopping season! Between Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, it can be difficult to even know where to begin. But with so many options, we thought it would be an exciting opportunity to feature some of our local favorites.

 

Small Business Saturday is a great way to support your community simply by vowing to #ShopSmall. We have asked our Bucket family, in every city, to give us the scoop on their favorite local places to shop, eat, drink and be merry. 

 

Columbia, MO

  • Local Retailers

    • Plume - At Plume you can find everything from cupcakes and craft supplies, to personalized gifts from over 70 local artisans. You can even sign up for workshops and learn how to create seasonal home decor!

    • Sumits Hot Yoga - In addition to a stacked offering of hot yoga classes, the boutique carries a variety of brands designed to cater to the yogi lifestyle. You can also purchase candles, jewelry and gift certificates…Not to mention huge Black Friday & Small Business Saturday specials.

    • ARTlandish Gallery - ARTlandish is a great place to shop, see work by tons of local artists and explore fun events hosted by the North Village Arts District.

    • Poppy - Poppy specializes in artisan-made goods, gifts and art. They will be open at 9 am on Small Business Saturday with doughnuts, swag bags and a local jewelry pop-up by Rose Ridge Jewelry from 12-4 pm. 

    • Makes Scents - Looking for a unique gift this holiday season? At Makes Scents, you can create your own custom fragrance, unlike any other!

  • Bars & Restaurants

    • Cafe Berlin - There is always a wait for Sunday brunch, but that’s how you know it’s good!

    • 44 Canteen - Did someone say fish tacos and disco fries?! 

    • Uprise Bakery - Hot tip: The melted cheese & hummus plates are to die for. After indulging, make your way next door for a movie at Ragtag Cinema.

    • Top 10 Wines - Sit down and enjoy a glass, or grab a bottle on the way to a gathering. Either way, Top 10 Wines surely will not disappoint. 

    • Murry's - Many people noted this one as the best local place for eats and drinks in Columbia! You can’t come to Murry’s without trying Brock's Green Pepper Rings.

 

Kansas City, MO

  • Local Retailers

    • Made in KC Marketplace - Your one-stop shop for all trendy KC apparel and goods.

    • ULAH - If you’re looking to up your game, ULAH is the perfect place for men when it comes to all things stylish: clothing, accessories, gifts and home accents. You name it. They got it.

    • Fetch - Fetch is located within the thrifty neighborhood of West Bottoms, amongst various other antique shops. With everything from quality canvas tote bags to vintage T-shirts, you can find American-made goods uniquely available to Kansas City. 

    • Hammerpress - This letterpress print shop and design house makes all of their goods in studio. Beautiful design with great quality.

    • Charlie Hustle - The unofficial-official brand of Kansas City T-Shirts. Also extremely comfortable.

  • Bars & Restaurants

    • Grinders Pizza - Classic pizza joint with a full menu where you can catch live music.

    • McLain's Bakery - This bakery has been open since 1945, so they must be doing something right! Come for the brunch and stay for their famous desserts.

    • Town Topic - Perfect for a late night burger in the city.

    • Chez Elle - If you’re a crepe person, this little french cafe is a must.

    • Tribe Street Kitchen - Here you can order delicious food and drinks from a variety of cultures around the world!

 

Des Moines, IA

  • Local Retailers

    • Treasure House Gift Shop - This is a great place to shop for a gift, when you don't know what to buy. They have a little bit of everything!

    • Ankeny Hardware - Great locally-owned, well-stocked hardware store… Almost like the old days, but modern!

    • Accents + Interiors - This is a great stop, if you’re looking for unique gifts for everyone on your list this holiday season. They have a wide range of goods from quirky cards to clever housewares.

  • Bars & Restaurants

    • RoCA - RoCA is a fantastic place for a long and casual dinner with friends. It has small plates and a great wine list.

    • Centro - Classic urban eatery with great food. Centro is the perfect choice to take out of town guests for a great meal.

    • El Bait Shop - El Bait Shop has over 200 craft beers on tap. It has been named one of the nation's Top Ten Beer Halls of 2018. They also have bacon-wrapped tater tots. ‘Nuff said.

    • Flying Mango - Never disappoints. Caribbean/BBQ flare.

    • Della Viti - This self-serve wine bar is in downtown's East Village and Uptown Ames. It has a chill, laid back atmosphere, making it a great place to catch up with friends.
